The transmitters are part of the new Meteorological Mobile Facility Next Generation Replacement System which consists of a humvee, trailer, two remote transmitters, one local transmitter, radar and the ability to tap into weather satellites and is due to replace old, static equipment. The system is the first in the Corps and Yuma is being used as a test bed before it is used throughout the Corps.
