Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 4 Marines prepare a high-speed, anti-radiation missile, after mounting it on an EA-6B Prowler jet at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz., Oct. 8, 2010. The Prowler jets fired a total of 14 HARMs at targets in the Pacific Ocean as part of the Weapons and Tactics Instructor course, which gives the squadron the opportunity to train with live HARMs. “It was brand new for every one of the guys that was out there today,” said Staff Sgt. Robert Farmer, VMAQ-4 ordnance chief. “We’ve got one guy that’s been with us for three years and hadn’t touched a live HARM, and we’ve got another guy, who has only been with us for about a month and got lucky. So, the training was definitely important.” The squadron specializes in electronic warfare using the HARM, which detects electromagnetic radiation given off by enemy radars or anti-aircraft weapons, and is also the only missile Prowlers launch.
