Search and Rescue from the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz., along with local law enforcement personnel, carry the victim of a local plane crash to a SAR HH-1N Huey on Aug. 31, 2010. The victim, Dan Bosser, 57, was transported by SAR to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Because of the rough terrain, the pilots were forced to execute a technique referred to as a “101,” in which one landing skid rests on the ground, while the other remains suspended while the rotors are still turning. SAR’s mission is to support various rescue operations within 100 nautical miles of the air station.
