Cindy Lacy-Whitman, head of Marine Corps retail operations, station commanding officer Col. Mark Werth and Don Mitchell, Marine Corps Community Services director, cut the ribbon to open the new Marine Corps Exchange at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz., Nov. 18, 2009. The 64,000-square-foot exchange, recently completed after approximately 14 months of construction, features a food court, barber shop, laundromat and dry cleaners. Approximately 800 patrons lined up, some as early as the night before, in order to receive a gift bag and a gift card of up to $250. “Oh, it was totally worth it,” said Kyle Hausner, a Marine dependent, who secured his place in line at 11:30 p.m. the previous night. “I only got one or two hours of sleep.” The ribbon-cutting was the first event of the four-day grand opening, which will last through Nov. 21, 2009. “We worked on this event for about two months,” said Jenifer Larson, MCCS assistant marketing director. “The turnout for this has been amazing.”
