Maj. James Combs, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron executive officer, listens to Dr. Gail Wallen’s presentation on the Holocaust Friday June 26, 2009, at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz. Wallen’s historical presentation reviewed the climate of a post-World War I Germany that allowed the Nazi party to take control and cause persecution of the Jewish people, all the way to the concentration camps that would claim the lives of 6 million. Accompanying Wallen were Holocaust survivors Annique Dveirin, who shared her personal experience of growing up in occupied Poland, Wanda Wolosky and Rosa Fruend. “We’re at a unique point in time,” said station commanding officer Col. Mark Werth, who attended the presentation. “This is a small group of people who can share a first-hand perspective with you.”
