During a 2008 Marine Corps ball, this Iwo Jima flag raising replica was presented to Kenneth H. Stevenson, an 84-year-old veteran who fought as a platoon sergeant with the 27th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division in 1945. Stevenson, who joined the Marine Corps in December 1941, shared his story with Marines and sailors at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz. Stevenson, a Kelso, Wash., native, has been a part-time Yuma resident since 1986.
