MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Ariz. --
The station’s next commanding officer was announced July 28, 2009, by the Marine Corps’ fiscal year 2010 colonel command screening board.
Col. Mark A. Butler, who is currently serving as the assistant deputy director of operations for operations team two under the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is scheduled to replace current station CO, Col. Mark A. Werth in June 2011.
Butler spent two years here as the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron commanding officer and another two as the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 executive officer prior to leaving the air station in 2007.
The board selected 56 officers, as well as an alternate for each command, out of the 229 eligible colonels and lieutenant colonels.
According to Marine Administrative Message 448/09, the quality of the Marines considered reaffirms that the Corps continues to produce and promote leaders of the highest caliber. The small number of command billets and the large number of eligible officers make command selection exceptionally competitive.
