MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Ariz. -- Re-enlistments for first-term Marines have closed for this fiscal year, meeting the goal of 6,735 boat spaces in only seven months.
Marines also re-enlisted with a noteworthy 98.4 percent military occupational specialty match, meaning most Marines stayed in their MOSs.
“This is a result of all the career planners working together to meet their missions and retain the right Marines in the right jobs,” said Sgt. Abraham Barcenas, career planner here.
“This is an important achievement that tells me that we are retaining the right Marines with the appropriate skills,” said Gen. James T. Conway, commandant of the Marine Corps.
Limited exceptions may be made for critical MOSs, such as intelligence and criminal investigator.
Fiscal year 2010’s goal was less that FY09’s goal of 7,334 first-term Marines because the Corps reached its goal to grow in size to 202,000 in the summer of 2009.
