Sergeant Major Hernandez was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in July of 1997 and
completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina on September 11, 1998. Following recruit training, Sergeant Major
attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina and then reported to his MOS school in Pensacola, Florida. He had
follow on training at HMLAT-303 FREST graduating in August of 1999.
Upon completion of his MOS training, Sergeant Major Hernandez reported to his first duty station HMLA-267 on Camp Pendleton,
CA. During his tour he was meritoriously promoted to Corporal in March of 2001, participated in the Unit Deployment Program, and
received Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative Qualification. During his tour he held the following billets of Avionics
Technician, Collateral Duty Inspector, and Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative.
Sergeant Major Hernandez received orders for recruiting duty and reported to Recruiting School on MCRD San Diego, CA in January
of 2003. Upon graduation, he reported for duty to Recruiting Station New Jersey in March of 2003. During his tour, he was stationed
in RSS Somerville and RSS Elizabeth. Sergeant Major Hernandez was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant in July of 2004.
During his tour he held the billets of Canvassing Recruiter, A-Gunner, and Program Specialist.
Sergeant Major Hernandez reported to Center of Naval Aviation Technical Training on Camp Pendleton, CA for instructor duty in
September of 2006. During his tour, he held the positions of instructor and Naval Integrated Training Resource Administrative Systems
Chief. Sergeant Major Hernandez earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in December of 2007.
Sergeant Major Hernandez reported to HMLA-467 on MCAS Cherry Point, NC and held the following positions: Avionics ASNCOIC,
Avionics SNCOIC, and Maintenance Control SNCOIC. Sergeant Major Hernandez was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in July of
2009. During his tour he participated in humanitarian efforts in Haiti and New York. Sergeant Major Hernandez also deployed with
the 26th MEU on two consecutive tours.
Sergeant Major Hernandez reported to Center of Naval Aviation Technical Training on Pensacola, FL for instructor duty. During his
tour he held the positions of SNCOIC and Assistant Marine Liaison Officer. Sergeant Major Hernandez was promoted to 1stSgt in
January of 2016.
Sergeant Major Hernandez reported to 8th Communication Battalion on Camp Lejeune, NC in February of 2016. During his tour he
was the Company First Sergeant for HQ Company, C Company, and A Company. Sergeant Major Hernandez was also TAD to MHG
to serve as the H&S Company First Sergeant for II MEF, II MEB, and II MHG.
Sergeant Major Hernandez reported to 1st Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment on Camp Lejeune, NC in December of 2018. During his
tour, he held the positions of Battery First Sergeant in HQ Battery and Battery C.
Sergeant Major Hernandez was promoted to his current rank in October of 2020. Sergeant Major Hernandez reported to Recruiting
Station Columbus Sergeant Major in July 2020.
Sergeant Major Hernandez’ awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), Navy
and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), and several Letters of Appreciation, Meritorious Masts, and
Certificate of Commendations.
