The newly completed east side of Murrayville, the urban portion of the Convoy Security Operations Course training evolution, sits in the Barry M. Goldwater Range southeast of the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz., Feb. 22, 2010. Murrayville’s expansion increases the combat experience for squadron ground elements training for deployment by offering them more than 100 targets to shoot upon and opportunities to practice handling themselves during crossfire in an urban combat environment. Other effects simulators include amplified voices of enemy combatants and simulated improvised explosive devices. - The newly completed east side of Murrayville, the urban portion of the Convoy Security Operations Course training evolution, sits in the Barry M. Cpl. Robert Dominguez, a 26-year-old native of Selma, Calif., serves as the Silent Drill Platoon’s latest drill master, tasked with memorizing, teaching and passing down the platoon’s unique drill manual, called slide drill. In addition to teaching and critiquing the platoon’s drill, Dominguez is also responsible for creating a new drill sequence for the platoon to perform and for selecting the year’s new members and the 24 Marines who will drill during performances. The position of drill master is passed down each year, just as the drill sequence changes each year. Dominguez, who is in his third year with the platoon, is the platoon’s 62nd drill master. “It’s a great honor to be the 62nd drill master of the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, teaching the manual to Marines and passing it on,” said Dominguez, who became the drill master Nov. 4, 2009. “I am the keeper of the Silent Drill Platoon’s traditions.” - Cpl.
