U.S. Marines with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band perform during SgtMaj. Brian D. Olea’s Relief and Appointment ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma Ariz., June 6, 2019. The Relief and Appointment Ceremony is an honored product of the rich heritage of Naval tradition. The heart of the ceremony is the passing of the NCO Sword by the Activity Commander from the outgoing Sergeant Major to the new Sergeant Major which signifies the transfer of responsibility, accountability, and authority, from one individual to another. U.S. Marines assigned to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma Headquarters & Headquarters Squadron (H&HS) receive their blood stripes during a Blood Stripe Ceremony at MCAS Yuma Ariz., June 4, 2019. The blood stripe honors the blood that was shed by Marine officers and noncommissioned officers (NCO) during the Battle of Chapultepec in 1847 and is worn on the trousers of the NCOs, Staff NCOs, and officers in remembrance of those who courageously fought in the battle.
