SgtMaj David M. Leikwold
Sergeant Major Leikwold was born in West Hills, California, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December 1990. After completion of Recruit Training in April 1991, Sergeant Major Leikwold was transferred to Camp Pendleton to attend Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry and the Light Armored Vehicle Crewman Course where he received the MOS of 0313, Light Armored Vehicle Crewman.
In November 1991, he was assigned to 2d Light Armored Infantry Battalion (LAI), Camp Lejuene, North Carolina where he worked as a Light Armored Vehicle Driver and Gunner. While assigned to LAI, Sergeant Major Leikwold became a Marine Combat Instructor of Water (MCIWS) and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal.
In June 1994, Sergeant Major Leikwold was ordered to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (LAR) where he served as a Vehicle Commander and Platoon Sergeant for Company C. While assigned to 1st LAR, Sergeant Major Leikwold deployed with the 11th and 13the Marine Expeditionary Unit's (MEU) and attended the Infantry Squad Leader's Course and Sergeant's Course where he was the class distinguished honor graduate.
In December 1999, Sergeant Major Leikwold received orders to Recruiter School in MCRD, San Diego, CA. Upon completion of recruiter school, Sergeant Major Leikwold was assigned to Recruiting Station (RS) Harrisburg, PA, 4th Marine Corps District to execute his duties as a canvassing recruiter, Assistant Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (ANCOIC) and Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (SNCOIC) of Recruiting Substation (RSS) Sunbury, PA. Upon completion of Recruiting duty, Sergeant Major Leikwold attended the Career Course in Quantico, VA.
In June 2002, Sergeant Major Leikwold executed orders back to the 1st LAR Bn, Camp Pendleton, CA. While assigned to 1st LAR, Sergeant Major Leikwold served as Company GySgt and Company 1stSgt with Company B and Weapons Company. Sergeant Major Leikwold was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and attended the Advance Career Course, Camp Pendleton, CA. He deployed with Company B on the 13th MEU in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2.1 (OIF) and again with Weapons Company, 1st LAR Bn (Fwd) in support of OIF 4.1.
In June 2006, Sergeant Major Leikwold reported to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron (H&HS), Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), Iwakuni, Japan, where he served as the Operations and Training Chief for H&HS. Not long after his arrival, Sergeant Major Leikwold was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and executed orders to Combat Logistics Company 36 (CLC 36), Iwakuni, Japan. During his tenure, he deployed with CLC 36 to Korea and the Philippines in support of the Marine Wing Support Squadrons (MWSS) mission and area of operations. While stationed in Japan, Sergeant Major Leikwold attended the First Sergeant's Course in Quantico, VA, the E8 Seminar in Okinawa, Japan and completed Expeditionary Warfare School Phase one and two.
In June 2009, Sergeant Major Leikwold executed orders to 2d Radio Battalion, Camp Lejuene, NC, where he served as the Company C, First Sergeant. While assigned to Company C, Sergeant Major Leikwold deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom 11.1 (OEF) in support of II MEF Headquarters Group's (MHG) assigned mission in Afghanistan. Upon returning from OEF, Sergeant Major Leikwold attended the Senior Enlisted PME Course in Quantico, VA.
In May 2012, Sergeant Major Leikwold was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major and reported for duty as the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464, Sergeant Major. During his 30 month tenure with the "Condors" of HMH 464, Sergeant Major Leikwold would oversee three MEU DET deployments and numerous exercises in support of 2D Marine Aircraft Group's Area of Operation.
In December 2015, Sergeant Major Leikwold executed orders to Okinawa, Japan and assumed the duties as 3D Transportation Support Battalions' (TSB) Sergeant Major until January 2017. In January 2017, Sergeant Major Leikwold executed orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion (ESB), Okinawa, Japan where he served as battalion Sergeant Major until June 2017. During his time with 3D TSB and 9th ESB, Sergeant Major Leikwold deployed numerous times in support of III MEF's mission and Area of Operations.
In July 2017, Sergeant Major Leikwold executed orders back to CONUS to assume his current duties as Sergeant Major, Marine Corps Air Station YUMA, Arizona.
Sergeant Major Leikwold's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal w/2 star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/1 star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/1 star, Combat Action Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal w/8 stars.
