Vehicle Registration

***IMPORTANT***
Personnel reporting for duty must register their vehicles with the Pass and Registration Office, located in Building 952, just inside the main gate, within 30 days after their reporting date.

The driver must present a current and valid state registration, driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required under Arizona law. Active-duty Marines ages 25 and under must also show proof of completion of the driver’s improvement course. Privately owned vehicles traveling on the air station are subject to spot checks by military police for current state and base registration and safety inspections.

In addition to all vehicle registration requirements, motorcycle operators must pass a motorcycle safety course offered by the air station’s safety department prior to the issuance of a decal.

Per station order P5560.3B you will need the following items to register your vehicle:

• Valid Driver’s License

• Valid Insurance & Registration

• Military Identification Card

• If you are under the age of 26 you must have your Arrive Alive at 25 certificate (NO ONLINE COURSE CERTIFICATES DATED AFTER 29NOV11 ACCEPTED)

For registering a Motorcycle you will the need the above items plus the following items:

• MC Endorsement on your Driver’s License

• Basic Riders Course card to receive a 90 day pass

• If you already have a decal you will need to provide the Advance Riders Course Card (NOT MORE THAN 3 YEARS OLD)

- If you would like to keep an out of state registration you will need a letter from your insurance company stating that they are aware that your vehicle is being garaged in Arizona.

- To receive a decal you must have at least 6 months left on your Military Identification Card expiration date, less than 6 months will receive a vehicle pass.

- You have 30 days upon your arrival to MCAS Yuma to register your vehicle or motorcycle and update your decal to this duty station.

VEHICLE INFORMATION

All vehicles on the installation must have current registration and current insurance at all times.

If you deploy, please do NOT leave your vehicle in the barracks parking lot. PMO has a deployment lot you may leave your vehicle in during your TAD, Deployment, etc. Call PMO desk Sgt at 928-269-2205 and ask for AID.

• If you decide to leave your vehicle with someone during leave, TAD or deployment, you must provide them with a Power of Attorney (POA) or a notarized letter allowing them to drive your vehicle for more than 24 hours while you are gone. Special or limited POA’s are given if your registration is going to expire during your absence so they can take care of registration renewal or to update insurance policy, notarized letters are for just driving more than one day, etc…

• If your vehicle receives a neon orange, green, pink sticker on the windshield, please do not remove until you contact the PMO desk Sgt at 928-269-2205. (These are placed on vehicles that have been sitting gathering cobwebs or have flat tires or in pieces or looked abandoned).

All vehicles must meet not only their state registration requirements, but must also be in compliance with the Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) for vehicles on the road, i.e., Mud flaps for trucks raised over stock height, tinted windows (no more than 35%), meet the same or more for the insurance requirements ($15,000/$30,000), if the vehicle came with permanent doors you must have them on the vehicle, (not Jeep removable doors or top, or Broncos/Trailblazers with a removable top).

Remember no matter whose vehicle you are driving, you are responsible to make sure registration and insurance are up to date and paperwork is in the vehicle.

Arizona and Iowa allow you to provide a digital copy of your current insurance policy. But if you cannot provide this at the time of the stop (no internet connection, no Wi-Fi, or service), you will be issued a citation.

Weapons Registration

Per Station Order P5510.8F (w/ch2) Chapter 3 you will need the following items to register your weapon, i.e., hand guns, rifles and shotguns:

• Military Identification Card

• Bring in weapon Condition 4 with no ammo in magazines or case.

• If bringing a weapon and ammunition onto the installation to register or transport to your residence, the ammunition must be in a separate area of the vehicle than the weapon (ex. weapon inside car, ammo in trunk or vise versa).  Either cannot be within reach of driver.

• All weapons MUST have trigger locks, MUST be stored in lockable cases, and MUST be stored separately from ammunition.

 If you do not bring in the weapon you will need the following information:

• Make

• Model

• Year

• Serial Number

• Barrel Length

• Caliber

• Action

• Description of weapon

• If weapon has a scope bring it or the information on it (some have serial numbers)

You are not permitted to carry your weapon on your person while you are on the installation.

You have 24 hours upon your arrival to MCAS Yuma or your purchase of a weapon to register the weapon if it is to be brought aboard the station or you reside on the station.

If you cannot find a serial number on your weapon, you MUST bring it in when registering it.

Other weapons that need to be registered:

• K-Bars and Knives that consists of a blade exceeding 4 inches in length

• Paintball Guns

• BB Guns

• Pellet Air Guns

• Compound/Re-curve/Cross Bows

Pet Registration

Per Marine Corps Order P11000.22 and Station Order 6400.1J, residents are required to provide updated Rabies Vaccinations, and Microchip Information upon registration within 5 days of moving into military housing or the purchase of an animal.
All pet owners are required to call the Provost Marshal Office Animal Control 928-269-6303, to schedule a registration appointment. Documentation is not required at the time of registration.

Traffic Court

If you receive a citation on the base, you have (3) three working days to report to the Traffic Court Clerk at Bldg 952, Pass and Registration Office by the main gate.

The Clerk will assess points for minor infractions.

The Clerk will schedule you for Traffic Court if you wish to contest or the infraction requires you to see the Magistrate.

Traffic Court does not accept phone calls, you must come in.

If you receive a citation out in town for anything that if committed on base would be grounds for base suspension, you are to report to PMO upon release with your citation, i.e., DWI or DUI, Driving while on state suspended Drivers License, Reckless Driving, Exhibition of Speed, Criminal Speeding 20+ MPH over posted, Fleeing the Scene of an Accident, etc...

If you are suspended or revocated, your vehicle cannot be on base, no one else can bring your vehicle on base unless it is your bona-fide spouse. (He or She must obtain a special decal to enter the base for each vehicle)

Driver's License Extension

Not all states automatically extend your Drivers License just because you are military. You are to inform you state that you are AD military or married to AD military and see what the individual rules for that state say. You must also update both your Drivers License’s mailing address and the vehicle registration address with your state. Make sure each item is updated; most DMVs do not share the same database for Drivers Licenses and Registration. AZ does not.

You do NOT have to change the address on the front of your license just the mailing address.  It is required by all states that once you leave the state you have 10 days to update your license’s mailing address.

Most states will provide you with some kind of form, paperwork, or card to carry or even mark your record saying you are military and that they have an extension for military.

Some states DO NOT have extensions at all. Best thing is to keep your license current with your state.

PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME YOU HAVE AN AUTOMATIC EXTENSION! Please do not ask fellow Marines, check for yourself or call the Traffic Court Clerk, 928-269-3697. They will be able to help you with any of this.
