A native of Keystone Heights, Florida Col Bennett graduated from the University of Florida in 1998, was commissioned through the PLC program and earned his wings in May 2001.
In November 2001, First Lieutenant Bennett was assigned to the “Thunder Chickens” of HMM-263. In February of 2002, he was transferred to the “Golden Eagles” of HMM-162.
In 2003, he deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM as part of Task Force Tarawa then again in 2005 while attached to the 26th MEU.
In May 2005, Captain Bennett was selected for transition to the MV-22 and from 2006-2008, he served as the Weapons and Tactics Instructor for VMM-162 supporting another deployment for OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 8-02.
Captain Bennett reported to MAWTS-1, in June 2008, where he served as one of three MV-22 Instructor Pilots during the initial stand-up of the MV-22 division. During his four-year tour with MAWTS-1, he served as the MV-22 Division Head and the Assault Support Department Head.
In July 2013, Major Bennett reported to the “Evil Eyes” of VMM 163 to serve as the Operations Officer. During this tour he deployed is support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM as part of the 11th MEU.
From June to December 2015, Major Bennett served in Headquarters Marine Corps, Marine Aviation as the Aviation Plans and Expeditionary Enablers (APX) Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Programs Officer (APX-50).
Lieutenant Colonel Bennett assumed Command of the VMM-161 “Greyhawks” in May 2016 ultimately deploying as an ACE attached to the 15th MEU.
Post Command tour, he reported to the United States Naval War College as a student, graduating with a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.
In July 2019, he reported to the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense (Acquisition & Sustainment), where his portfolio included: DoD Rotary-Wing Aviation issues; Policy Board for Federal Aviation (PBFA); Group 1-3 UAS; and the Joint Robotics and Autonomous Systems Enterprise (JRASE).
Colonel Bennett joined the MAGTF Staff Training Program in August 2021, as the Deputy Director.
In July 2023, Colonel Bennett reported to the I Marine Expeditionary Force and served as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff G-3 Operations. He assumed command of MCAS Yuma in July 2026.
His decorations include: Defense Meritorious Service, Meritorious Service with two gold stars, Air Medal Strike/Flight with numeral six, and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation with two gold stars.
