MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Ariz. --
The Corps’ test pilot selection board is scheduled to convene Aug. 14, 2009, to review applicants interested in testing aircraft and new flying techniques.
According to Marine Administrative Message 417/09, test pilot applicants must submit their package for test pilot school by Aug. 7, 2009.
Targeted for this school are AV-8B Harrier, F/A-18 Hornet, EA-6B Prowler, AH-1 Cobra and CH-53E Super Stallion pilots.
Applicants must be active duty captains or majors with 1,500 hours of flight experience or more. However, pilots with flying experience in multiple aircraft with only 1,000 flight hours or more will still be considered.
Applicants must have also completed two years on station by Dec. 1 to qualify for the first TPS class or July 1, 2010, for the next class. It is recommended pilots have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical science, computer science or mathematics, but applicants must have completed college physics or mechanics and college-level algebra and calculus. When submitting an application, pilots must include their college transcripts and a current official photo.
However, pilots who would like to apply for the F-35B operational test pilot position must be a captain or major with 10-13 years of commissioned service, be Harrier, Hornet or Prowler pilot with a minimum of 500 T/M/S hours or must be a division flight lead or mission commander for the Prowler.
Any pilot applying for a test pilot school seat needs a letter of endorsement from their command specifically describing their flying abilities and aviation leadership qualities.
Packages must be addressed as follows:
