MCAS Yuma Winter Tours: A New Perspective on a Familiar Sight

— MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Ariz. (Jan. 16, 2018) – “And if you look to the left, you’ll see Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron 1, also known as VMX-1,” said Lisa Tourtelot, the Office of Communication assistant and tour guide for the Winter Tours at MCAS Yuma “Rumor is that somewhere out there lies an explanation as to why the Marine Corps makes acronyms with letters that aren’t in the name.” As the group of visitors laugh, the tour bus continued its slow, steady trip down the flight line. MCAS Yuma seems to be smiling too, as the sun shines brightly in the sky and the Marines that call it their home do their daily jobs.

(Oct. 26, 2017) – A frightened child’s shriek briefly pierces the sound of music, the crackle of children grabbing candy and laughter from parents on the parade deck aboard Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma’s Trunk or Treat event on Thursday night. The child’s parents try to calm him from his recent scare; a costumed monster in a car’s decorated trunk. The music plays on and everybody continues to enjoy the event.

Bill Shepherd: 32 Years of Hard Work Recognized

— MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Ariz. (Oct. 23, 2017) – It’s been a long 32 years for Environmental Specialist William “Bill” Shepherd. Shepherd started serving the U.S. government at MCAS Yuma in 1985 and recently retired Oct. 19, 2017. Thirty-two years of loyal service was more than just a job to Bill Shepherd, it was an opportunity to meet great people and create lasting memories.

Marine Corps Bids Farewell to the EA-6B Prowler

— The Prowler is a fully integrated electronic warfare system combining long-range, all-weather capabilities with advanced electronic countermeasures. A forward equipment bay and pod-shaped fairing on the vertical fin house the additional avionics equipment. It has been the primary electronic warfare aircraft for the U.S Navy and U.S. Marine Corps since 1975.

Maj. Moghbeli's Final Flight

— MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Ariz. (July 7, 2017) – Yuma’s own Maj. Jasmin Moghbeli is in the spotlight as one of the elite chosen for the NASA Astronaut Candidate Class of 2017. The famed Baldwin, New York native has flown over 500 missions, 150 of those being combat missions, and logged over 12,000 hours flying the AH-1 Cobra.
